Hu Weiyi - Artists - Eli Klein Gallery

Hu Weiyi was born in Shanghai, China, in 1990. He graduated from the China Academy of Art with a BA from the department of Public Art in 2013, concluding his studies with an MA in the Media department. A multimedia artist and curator, Hu Weiyi’s work is influenced by social ethnography, theatrical elements and experimentation in film.

Hu Weiyi’s work has been the subject of major museum solo shows, including Hu Weiyi, Asian Art Center, Taipei, Taiwan (2015) and No Express – Hu Weiyi, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China (2015). He has also exhibited in group shows including New voices: a dslcollection story, Klein Sun Gallery, New York, NY (2016); We – A Community of Chinese Contemporary Artists, Chi K11 Art Space, Shanghai, China (2016); Turning Point: Contemporary Art In China Since 2000, Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai, China (2016); Familiar Otherness – Art Across Northeast Asia, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong (2015); Shanghai Ever, Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, China (2015); Reformation, White Rabbit Gallery, Chippendale, Australia (2014); and The Summer Session, V2, Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2013).
